The story moves through real locations across the region, from the rolling prairies near Mandaree on the Fort Berthold Reservation to the stark beauty of the Badlands formations. We chose these settings deliberately: there’s something about the vast emptiness of western North Dakota that amplifies both isolation and mystery. When fog rolls across these plains, visibility drops to nothing\u2014and anything can hide in it.
For readers unfamiliar with this corner of the world, the map above gives you a sense of the distances involved and the terrain our characters navigate.
